Challenge
Independent contractors (painters, roofers, fencing/siding installers, etc.) typically manage client work, quotes, and payments through informal, disconnected channels — texts, cash, checks, or manual invoicing — making it hard to track job progress, secure funding upfront, and get paid reliably and on time. Clients, in turn, have no structured way to trust that funds are tied to actual delivery milestones.
Approach
Anchored the design around the core value proposition — "Easier for contractors to do business with their clients" — making sure every screen reinforced trust and simplicity rather than adding another complex financial tool to the contractor's day.
Designed for mobile-first, in-the-field use — contractors aren't sitting at a desk between jobs, so the interface needed to be scannable, high-contrast, and quick to act on (large touch targets, minimal text entry, dark UI that works well outdoors and in varied lighting).
Made job progress the primary mental model — instead of showing raw transaction data, used a visual "X of 4" milestone ring paired with funding amounts ($0/$1,500) so contractors could immediately see where each job stood, at a glance, across a list of concurrent projects.
Solution
A mobile app that lets contractors manage their entire client workflow in one place: a Job List separating current and past jobs, each showing funding progress through an intuitive milestone-ring visualization. Within each job, contractors can see a clear payment breakdown by milestone (e.g. deposit at start, balance on completion) and request client funds directly from the app with a single action.
